Music Teachers Living in a Tech World

A Year of Development: This is Muze

Music lessons have been a little bit different this past year. Many of us teachers were thrown into a bit of a tailspin when we were faced with the new territory of online teaching.  Since graduating from college, I can say that I have not HAD to use technology in teaching outside of a recorder app on my phone, email/text correspondence with families, and an occasional opening up a word document to create a recital program.

Frozen screens, feedback issues, synchronous playing became something we had to navigate as we found new tricks to make teaching work.  Muting and unmuting, booting, rebooting, etc.  Many of us dug our heels in, but some of us have embraced and risen to the challenge! We now have more opportunities to think outside of the box and, by utilizing technology in our lessons, I believe this makes us better teachers.  That said, the technology needed to catch up a bit for music teachers.

We decided to take on the challenge of creating Muze, which offers up all of the teaching and organizing tools in one place.  We brainstormed and gathered input from teachers representing all music instruments and took in the pain points of pandemic teaching.  After a year of development, we’ve created a space where files, lesson notes, clips, metronome, tuner, visual cues, scheduling, and more will all be readily available for the teacher and student’s convenience.

Gone are the days of holding up our phone to the computer screen to use the tuner nor do we have to hear the excuse of “I can’t find my music” or “I forgot what we were supposed to practice”.

Gone are the days where we are shuffling through loose sheet music, recording video from our phones after lessons and sending them along to students, taking snapshots of lesson notes and texting to students and parents.

Our mission is to help teachers thrive, whether teaching online or in person.  Our goal is to help teachers feel organized, professional, and time-efficient through the use of Muze’s tools and platform.
